About
The Kings Coronation Coracle Drift on the River Severn will be a very special event to mark the end of a glorious weekend of celebrations. The event also pays tribute to the King Charles III and his passion for heritage, artisan craft, the natural environment and nature.
A flotilla of 22 coracle paddlers wearing crowns will escort a 2m high and wide Willow Woven Crown along the River Severn from Ironbridge Rowing Club near Dale End Park to just under the famous Iron Bridge itself.
The sculpture has been made by local artists: Mary Lewis an artisan Basket Weaver and Chair of Ironbridge Coracle Trust and Cal Westbrook, artist & author of Colin in a Coracle.
The sculpture will be paddled on a raft of 2 canoes, by staff from Vic Haddock Canoe Hire.
The event starts at 11:15 and will drift through Ironbridge at 11.30am.
The nature inspired Crown will then be displayed in the garden at the Green Wood Centre for people to visit and enjoy.
The event is made possible thanks to funding from Telford & Wrekin Council and their Kings Coronation Celebration Fund.
