Summer in Telford means oodles of family entertainment. Festivals take over our parks and attractions (outdoors and indoors, just in case rain threatens to stop play)! Woodland, riverside and canal paths buzz with life and the merry ding-ding of bicycle bells, and our cafes and restaurants overflow with fresh, local produce.
Grab your factor 50 or your brolly, depending on the weather, and dive in!
Budding historians and anyone who loves old-school fairgrounds (so that’s everyone then!) will love a day out at one of these heritage museums and railways.
Ten brilliant museums form the beating heart of the Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site. They’re all brilliant but a couple stand out for younger visitors. Puff back to the age of steam at Blists Hill Victorian Town, get hands-on with science and engineering at Enginuity, or follow Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron’s family trail. And you don’t need to be old enough to crave a cuppa to appreciate the cups and saucers on show at Coalport China Museum.
Want to get moving? Jet off to RAF Museum Cosford and spend a few hours among the fighter planes. Their virtual reality Spitfire experience will make you believe you’re soaring through the air. If you’d rather keep tiny toes firmly on the ground, make tracks for Telford Steam Railway or Severn Valley Railway.
