Let little legs run wild on days out in Telford’s waterways and parks. There are plenty of animals to meet, from alpacas and wolves to, um, dinosaurs! And the award-winning, 450-acre Telford Town Park is at its best with a picnic on a lazy summer’s day. Although you can always liven things up on the Sky Reach high ropes course, in the brilliant play areas, or with a round of adventure golf.
Hoo Zoo & Dinosaur World is home to creatures from around the globe. You can spend a day in the company of clever raccoons, badgers, wolves, wallabies and the largest rodent in the world. Don’t miss the woodland walk in Hoo-rassic World – the woods are inhabited by all sorts of moving dino models!
For a more laid-back summer’s day, pack all your favourite foods in a hamper and head to Frankly Alpacas at Mad House Farm for a picnic with some unusual dining buddies: alpacas. The six girls (Poppy, Daisy, Coco, Mocha, Whiskey and Vimto) are excellent company! The boys (Loki, Gino and Copper) are up for a trek around the beautiful big field, too. For a totally chilled experience, try Alpaca Zen Time, and sit in the sun with the alpacas mooching around you.
On really hot days, the only place to be is on the water. Drift along the River Severn on a raft, canoe, kayak or mega-SUP from Shropshire Raft Tours. Want something really different? Hire a coracle. This small, round boat was traditionally used in Shropshire and other parts of the UK. In the early days of the Industrial Revolution, ‘commuters’ from Ironbridge used coracles to get to work in Coalbrookdale.
