Find out everything you need to know about Telford's Walk Week. This exciting event offers a range of walks for locals and visitors alike to explore the stunning scenery of Telford. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a family looking for a fun day out, there is a walk to suit all abilities and interests.

The best part? Most of the walks are completely free, while others have a small fee that is well worth it for the experience. You'll have a week of opportunity to discover hidden gems, take in breath-taking views, and learn about the history and culture of our beautiful destination.

No matter which walks you choose, you can expect to be led by knowledgeable guides who are passionate about sharing their love for Telford's landscape and heritage. And with routes and terrain to suit all abilities, you can rest assured that everyone in your group will have a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Slow Ways: Newport - Telford I 11:30am – 4:30pm
Meeting at:
St Nicholas Church, High Street, Newport, TF10 7BA
Ending at: Telford Central Station
Distance: 9 miles (5 hours)
Walk grade: Moderate

This is a 9‑mile linear walk from Newport to Telford, designed as an introduction to the Slow Ways project.

The recommended way to take part is to catch the number 5 bus from Telford Bus Station at 10.23am to Newport. From there, it is a short walk to the start point. You are welcome to make your own travel arrangements if you prefer.

The route may include a short diversion to take in views from Lilleshall Monument and the “Top of the World”, if walkers would like to take a slightly more scenic route.

Family Friendly Welly Walk I 10am – 12pm

Seven Gorge Countryside Trust, Coalbrookdale, TF8 7EP
Walk grade: Easy

Families are invited to take part in a fun and engaging welly walk through Loamhole Dingle, guided by Amber from Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

This seasonal walk encourages children to explore watery wildlife as they compare what they find in the new pond with discoveries made in the dingle. The experience is designed to be hands‑on and interactive, helping young explorers learn more about the natural environment in an enjoyable and accessible way.

During the walk, there is also the opportunity to build small rafts and watch how they move with the current, adding an extra element of fun and curiosity to the day. The activity combines exploration, learning and play, making it ideal for families looking to enjoy the outdoors together.

Please note that the route includes steps and slopes and is therefore not suitable for pushchairs. Outdoor footwear is recommended to make the most of the experience and to ensure comfort and safety throughout the walk.

Marvellous Mammals - Family Friendly Walk I 10am – 12pm

Families are invited to join Amber for a guided wildlife walk exploring the woodlands around Loamhole Dingle and Jiggers Bank.

During the walk, participants will search for signs of mammals and other wildlife that use the area, learning how to spot clues left behind in the natural environment. The session is designed to be hands‑on and engaging, encouraging children to explore and discover more about local wildlife.

There will be the opportunity to have a go at casting animal footprints, weather permitting, as well as gathering natural materials to create miniature homes for wildlife. These activities add a creative element to the walk while helping to build understanding of how animals live and interact with their surroundings.

The route includes uneven terrain, steps and slopes, and is therefore not suitable for pushchairs. Participants are advised to wear suitable outdoor footwear and play clothes to ensure comfort and safety throughout the walk.

Snacks and drinks will be available at the end of the session, providing a chance to relax and reflect on the discoveries made during the walk.

Distance: 3-3.5 miles (2 1/2 hours)
Walk grade: Easy: Accessible walk, best suited to motorised wheelchairs

A guided tour of some of Wellington's listed properties with Wellington History Group.

Admire the architecture and get an insight into the heritage of the town with this informative walk. Hot drinks will be provided at the Orbit Wellington at end of the walk.

Rough Wrekin | 9:30am – 4:30pm

Meeting and ending at: Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre, Tan Bank, Wellington, TF1 1LX
Distance: 9-10 miles (6-7 hours)
Walk grade: Hard

This is a strenuous walk on minor paths and tracks, crossing four hills in The Wrekin Forest.

It is a challenging 9–10‑mile walk with steep ascents and descents. Good walking shoes or boots are strongly recommended, and a walking pole is advised. Please bring a packed lunch.

Walk and Talk is an initiative that aims to tackle violence against women and girls. It invites women to meet with female Police officers for a walk and an informal conversation about any concerns they may have around safety in their neighbourhood.

This walk is free to join. No need to book, just turn up.

Eco trail and Denso Garden tour | 9:30am – 1pm

Meeting and ending at: Tesco Express, Hadley, Hadley District Centre, TF1 5NF
Distance: 4 miles including the tour (3 1/2 hours)

This is a circular walk and guided tour of the Eco Trail and Gardens at DENSO Manufacturing in Hortonwood.

The trail was created by DENSO associates working with local schools and wildlife trusts, and shows how a business can support environmental conservation in the local community.

Participants can also enjoy a slice of pizza from the wood‑fired oven.

This walk is not suitable for dogs except support dogs.

Dawley and Little Dawley: Pools, Pit Mounds and Memorials I 10am

Meeting and ending at: Station Road free car park, junction of Doseley Road and Burton Street, TF4 2NW

Distance: 4.5 miles
Walk grade: Easy

Enjoy a 4.5 mile walk exploring one of Telford’s Coronation Walks with the author of the Coronation Walks Guidebook. The route visits six pools using pleasant waterside paths with an option to extend the walk to see three more. The walk continues through rewilded woodland and across former pit mounds with wide views of Brown Clee, Caer Caradoc, the Lawley and the Wrekin in clear weather. Dawley’s mining and industrial past is still visible with Victorian buildings, disused tramways, railways, canals and former pits and furnace pools that are now nature rich reserves. The walk passes memorials to local heroes and historic events and there are remnants of old farms and villages in Little Dawley. Please bring a drink and snack for a short break. Some parts of the route are countryside paths so dress for the weather and for unpaved surfaces. There are pubs and cafes in Dawley if you want lunch afterwards.

Dogs must be on leads and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Storytelling walk with Jake Evans

Jake Evans is an award-winning storyteller from Shropshire who travels widely to learn and share stories with audiences of all ages. He chooses tales that encourage a sense of wonder and an appreciation of the natural world. His sessions are fun, interactive and unique. Jake will share his stories during walks at Apley Woods, Ercall Hill and Granville Park.

Ironbridge Heritage Celebration Walk I 10am – 12pm

Walk grade: Easy

To celebrate the 40th year of the World Heritage Site, visitors are invited to join Amber from Severn Gorge Countryside Trust on a guided walk along the Iron Trail.

The walk follows sections of the Iron Trail through Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge, offering the chance to learn more about the rich industrial heritage of the area. Along the route, there will be plenty of stops to talk about the history and significance of the landscape, with the walk taken at a relaxed and leisurely pace.

The route is approximately three miles in length and includes steps and slopes, so participants should be prepared for uneven terrain. Suitable outdoor footwear and clothing are recommended to ensure comfort throughout the walk.

Participants are advised to bring water and snacks for the duration of the walk, as the session focuses on exploring the heritage of the area rather than speed or distance. This guided walk provides an opportunity to mark a significant anniversary while gaining a deeper understanding of the places that helped shape the Ironbridge Gorge.

Flora 250: Telford Millennium Nature Reserve | 2pm – 5:30pm

Meeting and ending at: Telford Millenium Local Nature Reserve Car Park, Behind Jenko's, Beveley Road, TF2 6SD
Distance: 4.7 miles (3-3 1/2 hours)
Walk grade: Moderate

Ecologist Chris Hogarth leads this walk around the varied habitats of Ketley. The area’s industrial landscapes, shaped during William Withering’s lifetime, have since been reclaimed by nature.

The walk explores Withering’s work by looking for examples of different plant families. His links to the Lunar Society, and to the scientific and industrial developments of the time, will also be highlighted.

Lyreco: An environmentally friendly future I 10am to 1pm

Meeting and ending at: 
Lyreco Main Reception, Deer Park Court, TF2 7NB
Walk grade: Easy

Discover how Lyreco’s 14,000 panel rooftop solar array supports the business, its employees and the local community. The walk also looks at other ways Lyreco supports staff wellbeing. The route explores their eco garden and continues into Granville Country Park to show how former industrial sites can be rewilded or newly created for nature rich woodland, wildflower meadows and community use. The walk follows woodland and field paths and includes some steps to the Top of the World viewpoint. Please dress for outdoor weather and uneven unpaved paths.

Please note, no one aged under 18 or dogs are permitted on this walk due to workplace safety regulations.

Coalport Ferry Disaster Walk I 11am – 2/3pm

Meeting and ending at: The Iron Bridge Toll House
Distance: 4 miles (3-4 hours)
Walk grade: Moderate

This circular walk goes through some of the Broseley Jitties and past the Red Church before dropping down Corbetts Dingle.

The walk continues to the Boat Inn where a short presentation about the Coalport Ferry Disaster will be given, refreshments will be available to purchase.

The return route follows the Severn Way and uses several seldom used footpaths. The first climb is steep but on pavement and there will be regular stops to look at points of interests with wide views along the way.

Military Walk with Men Walking and Talking I 7pm – 8pm

Meeting and ending at: Military memorial bench outside Meeting Point House 
Walk grade: Easy 

This free community walk is delivered in partnership with Men Walking and Talking. Participants will walk through Telford Town Park along the new Telford Veteran Trail. The trail celebrates the service and dedication of veterans by laying plaques throughout the park. It provides a lasting tribute for veterans, serving forces personnel, their loved ones and their families to recognise their time served in HM forces. The walk offers a relaxed and supportive space for anyone who would like to take part. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must stay on leads.

Parkwalk at Telford Park Run I 9am
 

Meeting and ending at: Telford Town Park Visitor Centre, Hinkshay Road, TF3 4EP
Distance: 3.1 miles
Walk grade: Easy

Everyone is welcome at parkwalk. Walkers set off at the same time and follow the same 5k parkrun route alongside runners and volunteers. It is free and friendly and gives people the chance to stay active at their own pace. There is no pressure to run and no time limit. Each event has a volunteer tail walker who is always the last to finish.

Telford Junior Park Run I 9am

Meeting and ending at: Telford Town Park Visitor Centre, Hinkshay Road, TF3 4EP
Distance: 1.2 miles
Walk grade: Easy

This walk / run is for juniors aged 4 to 14. Juniors take part on their own. A responsible adult may accompany a younger junior but must not cross the finish.

Oakengates Coronation Walk I 10:30am

Meeting and ending at: Oakengates Bus Station, TF2 6EH
Distance: 3.25 miles
Walk grade: Moderate

A hillier route led by Shaun and Deborah with a mix of slopes and one set of steep steps. The walk explores Cockshutt Nature Reserve, a large green space that rises above Oakengates, Wrockwardine Wood and St Georges. There are wide views across the area from the viewpoint at Snedshill. The route passes the remains of a canal, an inclined plane, a former railway line and areas linked with earlier mining. It also includes The Nabb and some peaceful wooded sections. The walk will be taken at a steady pace with time to stop and enjoy the views and surroundings.

This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs due to slopes and steep steps. Parking is available at Oakengates Bus Station and a larger car park by Telford Theatre, TF2 6ET

This walk follows part of one of the Borough’s way marked routes on the Telford T50 50 Mile Trail. The route ends at the Town Park Visitor Centre where light refreshments will be available to mark the finale of Telford Walk Week. Don’t forget if you are joing the walk early to bring along a packed lunch.

This walk from Ironbridge follows the T50 anticlockwise into Telford Town Park.

Participants can join at any of the following points:

Walk grade: Moderate

A circular walk from Telford Town Park through Randlay Valley on paths. This is a greener route than many people expect and explores a quiet area close to the centre of Telford. The route passes through green spaces and corridors that were designed into the nearby estates and can be joined at different points by residents of Randlay and Hollinswood.

Distance: 2 miles
Walk grade: Easy

A circular route linked to the Telford Coronation Walks in Randlay Valley. This is the wheelchair friendly version and stays entirely within Telford Town Park. It uses the fully accessible path option that still gives a feel for the green corridors and designed landscape of the area.
